Pumpkin Time!

Raichu and Pikachu pumpkins

Mason and "Raichu"

Ellorie and "Pikachu"

Last night for family night we did the pumpkin thing. Mason and Ellorie carefully considered their design, which means they thought of the most complicated image they could come up with. They are both mildly obsessed with Pokemon right now, so it really shouldn't have surprised me that Ellorie wanted a "Pikachu" pumpkin, and Mason wanted "Raichu". (They informed me that Raichu is just a Pikachu that has evolved to be stronger Pokemon with a more powerful thunderbolt attack.) Yeah. Anyway, I googled pictures of them, and drew them on the pumpkins. Then Brandon cut off the lids, and I scooped out the guts. I always have to scoop out the guts. The kids are scared of slimy things and refused to touch the insides, and Brandon decided he would rather hold Averie than scoop the guts, so ... Anyway, we saved the seeds on Mason's request and are roasting them right now. Brandon carved the "Pikachu" and I carved the "Raichu" , and a third pumpkin never got carved because it got too late. We'll see if I get around to it. Mason and Ellorie are very pleased with their pumpkins.

And on another note, here is our other cute "pumpkin" sporting Ellorie's sunglasses. What a cutie!!

I have a new nephew!

I have a new nephew! Trevor Mitchell Allen. (I may not have spelled that right) Mason and Ellorie are so excited to see him. He is only 5 month younger than Averie, so she will have a cousin to play with!! Congratulations Chad and Hilarie. He looks like a mini Chad. I just love the picture of Brooklyn kissing him. So sweet! There is nothing as precious as a brand new baby. I am excited to see everyone at Thanksgiving. So much to be thankful for!

Zippers are Funny

Push the play button here to watch the video. Apparently Videos cannot be rotated, so please watch this lying down.

Oh the days when the tiny things like the funny noise of a zipper made my day. Children are so quick to put things in perspective for me. Averie is so much fun.

My Weekly Indulgence

I started taking english riding lessons in September. It makes me so happy. I look forward to it and think about it all week. The lesson horse I ride is so well trained. I have ridden horses pretty much my entire life, but it still amazes me how little I know. The more I learn and read, the more I realize that I could spend my entire life learning how to ride really well. I think most things in life worth learning are like that. I have learned SO much in two months. Last Tuesday I had a private lesson and my instructor, Terie, let me ride her personal show horse, a four year old Dutch Harness/Arabian Mare. Wow! She was 16.3 hands tall!! I couldn't see the top of her back standing on my toes. She was the tallest horse I have ever ridden. She had so much power and a HUGE stride. It made me a little nervous to ride her. Her canter was amazing, I had to remind myself to keep breathing.
This is a picture of her as a three year old. (She is taller than this now) Terie keeps trying to talk me into buying a "show horse" of my own and competing. But I know that once a week is enough for me right now. Too many good things in this life...

I love fall!!!

I am never happier than when the leaves turn bright and spin and fly through the air, when the crisp, cool air blows away the sweaty, sticky days of summer, and when the smells of Autumn permeate the air. The artist in me is infatuated with the color contrasts of the stark crystal blue sky behind the shockingly yellow leaves of a row of cotton wood trees, or the glowing red crab apples amid the bright birch leaves in my yard. Everything is more aesthetically pleasing to me in the fall. We had a gorgeous overcast autumn day just last week. The colors were amazing, so I grabbed my camera and made the kids pose in the leaves for me. I had to pay Mason a quarter to lay in the cold leaves. They weren't really cooperating, but the pictures still turned out cute. Even Averie got in on the action.
