Garden/Yard Update

Today we finally had some reasonable spring weather.  It's been freezing and ridiculously windy for a solid week.  Frost on the ground every morning.  Coat weather.  Not spring.  Finally today we spent some time outside assessing the damage/progress to the garden and yard.  I guess the cold hasn't bothered the seeds we have planted so far because pretty much everything is up.  Almost anyway.  Carrots and onions are lagging behind a bit.  Here are my cute little peas:
And spinach:
And lettuce:
Also looking fantastic are the swiss chard and berries (strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.)

The weeds in the grass are thriving and unfortunately will continue to do so for at least another week before we can tackle them.  The grass is patchy and weedy right now, but I'm still hopeful.  It looks better at this stage than the grass we planted from seed in our last house.  I just have to be patient...  (No photos of the current disaster we call lawn.)

But today we planted a few additions to lawn and garden.  Brandon planted five trees (four honey locust and one maple) and I put in a row and a half of potatoes (red and purple.)  I don't know why, but it's exciting to keep adding a little here and there.

This is the purple potato seed.  Cool huh.  It stays a lighter shade of purple when cooked.  I can foresee some splendid colorful meals this fall...

And our cute little maple tree:  Hope he likes the wind.

Brittany,
I am so excited for you! It is such a rewarding feeling to see the seedlings sprout up like magic! And trees too! I doubt we will recoginize the yard when we see it next. How fun!
